On Friday, January 22, 2016, at approximately 3:01 a.m. Austin Police Officers responded to the 300 block of East Powell Lane in reference to a shooting/stabbing call. Officers arrived and found the victim lying on the ground with apparent trauma. Austin/Travis County EMS transported the victim to the University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as David Loera, Hispanic male (D.O.B. 07/31/1972).
An autopsy was performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office and the manner of death was ruled Homicide.
The suspect was described as a White male, in his twenties, 5'11” - 6'0”, having a slightly muscular build, last seen wearing a camo hat, brown vest, dark long sleeved undershirt, and dark pants.
The suspect vehicle was described as a newer model, dark, Chevrolet 4-door truck, possibly a 4x4.
On Tuesday January 26, 2016, Homicide detectives identified the suspect in this case as JonCasey William Rowell, White male (D.O.B. 01/10/1987). Rowell was arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and has been charged with Murder – 1st Degree, with bond set at $250,000. Rowell is currently in Travis County Jail.
